The Journey

Oliver and I developed Dr. Bob for our second hackathon. Out of 10 sponsor challenges offered, we picked the Dialogue Track because we both have non-English and non-French speaking parents and understand how difficult it is to make a medical appointment in Canada when you are not fluent in neither in English nor French. We wanted to support the Allophone community, which is why our application is offered in 5 languages: English, French, Korean, Chinese and Arabic. Since this was our second hackathon, we worked more efficiently than we did during our first one. However, we still ran into some hurdles, such as complex merge conflicts that we had to resolve. This was also our first time integrating an AI (Gemini) chatbot, which provided a great learning opportunity. We had to learn how to write prompts to ensure that Bob's responses remained accurate and on-track. Initially, the AI's replies were occasionally unpredictable, but we refined our prompts to ensure that the application delivered a reliable experience to our users. This experience helped me build Chemically Bonded which also uses a same AI API.
