The Journey

Our team developed a web platform designed to optimize the student campus experience. Building on the foundation of my previous project, "Meeting App", the application leverages the Gemini API to convert uploaded PDF schedules into structured digital formats. The platform also streamlines club management by identifying optimal meeting times based on mutual availability. Additionally, I developed a Campus Heat Map feature that provides real-time visualization of the room occupancy by integrating the Unifi API to track device connectivity across 100+ campus access points. To ensure long-term utility, I architected a data pipeline to export access point metrics into CSV files, enabling the IT and security department to audit traffic patterns without specialized software.

Engineering Challenges

The primary challenge with overlaying data (number of devices) onto a map image is the fluidity of the web. When using standard pixel values, the dots remain fixed while the map image scales up or down to fit different screen sizes. This causes the markers to drift from their intended landmarks. To solve this, I developed a Python script that calculates the position as a ratio of the image's dimensions instead of recording a static pixel location. This ensures the dots stay pinned to the exact location regardless of the screen size and allows new access points to be added easily, providing better scalability to departements in need.
